When helping your child choose a book, first have a discussion about the stories they enjoy and the books they have liked reading in the past. Ask them what their reading level is and what their goal is for this marking period. When deciding on a book, a "just-right" book; a book on their exact level, may be right, or they may be looking for a challenge. If a higher level book is chosen, reading with your child in the beginning to ensure comprehension might be the only guidance they need. Sometimes reading a lower level book might be a nice break for them and a fun read. Below is one of many websites that has generated a leveled book list. This is specifically for fifth grade. Reading RewardsThis program is an online reading log. Students can enter their reading time daily and keep track of all their reading in the form of RR miles. One minute of reading equates to one RR mile. They can then use those "miles" to purchase rewards. Rewards can range from bookmarks from the teacher to specialized rewards from the parents.
